Localization DTP Specialist — Localization Academy

I am the instructor for the Localization DTP Specialist course at Localization Academy: 104 lessons across more than five hours, with eight practical assignments and an optional certification.

The course assumes no prior desktop publishing experience and covers:

  • DTP fundamentals for localization
  • Typesetting in Word and PowerPoint
  • Assessing design risk before a project starts
  • Adobe InDesign for localization
  • Managing text expansion across languages
  • Right-to-left language practice
  • Identifying the common DTP failure modes
  • Localizing text and graphics
  • Assessing layout quality
  • Re-creating PDFs in InDesign

Training for teams

I also deliver this material privately to agency production teams — project managers who need to understand why files break, and DTP staff who need to work faster across scripts they do not read.

Sessions are built around your own files and your own failure modes rather than generic examples. Half a day is usually enough to change how a team handles multilingual documents.
